The project activity involves the installation and maintenance of Wind Turbines. The total installed capacity of the project is 80MW; which involves operation of 40 Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs), each with a capacity of 2 MW. The electricity is sold to the state grid. The power produced displaces an equivalent amount of power from the grid fed mainly by fossil fuel power plants.
Social and Sustainability Benefits
The project is contributing to sustainable development in Pune, in the State of Maharashtra, India:
- Generation of employment opportunities during the construction and operation of the project
- The project helps reduce the demand – supply gap in the region
- The project will demonstrate the technology in the region and help encourage other wind power projects.
136,936 tonnes of CO2e per year,
with the total expected GHG emission reductions across the 10 year crediting period, totals at 1,369,360 tonnes of CO2e offset.
£4.60 to offset 1tCO2e.1By using the carbon markets, entities can neutralise, or offset, their emissions by retiring carbon credits generated by projects that are reducing GHG emissions elsewhere. Of course, it is critical to ensure, or verify, that the emission reductions generated by these projects are actually occurring. This is the work of the VCS Program – to ensure the credibility of emission reduction projects.
