Park Ecovillage, Findhorn

New frontiers for Sustainability

The Park Ecovillage is home to around 300 people, and it is designed to be a sustainable and environmentally conscious community.

The Development of the Findhorn Ecovillage

Findhorn is originally a traditional fishing village in northeast Scotland, long established before the arrival of the Findhorn spiritual community.

The Park Ecovillage developed over several decades around the activities and inspiration of this spiritual community, which began in 1962 on a caravan site outside the village itself.

In the early 1970s, the Findhorn Foundation was created as an educational body to welcome and support visitors. During the 1990s, the Park Ecovillage gradually emerged as a distinct entity within the wider Findhorn spiritual and personal development community, eventually evolving into the eco-village that exists today.

The Park Ecovillage, situated on an approximately 800‑acre estate, is home to around 300 people and has developed as a sustainable, environmentally conscious community.

It features a variety of eco-friendly buildings, including straw bale and timber-framed homes, PET housing with 26 residences, and other low-impact dwellings.

The ecovillage also supports an organic farm, renewable energy systems, and a wastewater treatment system that recycles greywater for irrigation.

In addition to its focus on regenerative sustainability, the Park Ecovillage places a strong emphasis on community living and personal and spiritual development.

Residents participate in regular community activities and events, including gardening volunteering, meditations focused on peace, nature, or inner listening, circle dancing, and collective singing.

At the same time, they are encouraged to cultivate their own spiritual practices and pursue personal growth.
