Located at the entrance to The Park Ecovillage in Findhorn, Silvertrees is an attractive development of eight affordable, eco-designed homes, completed in 2021. Comprising four one-bedroom and four two-bedroom properties, the timber-clad homes sit within landscaped grounds that balance the privacy of an individual home with the benefits of living in a small, established community.

Silvertrees was designed for comfortable, sustainable day-to-day living. Thoughtful layouts, generous natural light, inviting garden spaces and practical shared facilities create a welcoming place to call home, with the added opportunity to take part in the life of The Park Ecovillage.

Silvertrees Property

Most homes enjoy a favourable south-facing aspect, allowing sunlight into the living spaces. Residents benefit from private south-facing garden areas alongside landscaped communal garden spaces that provide room to relax, meet neighbours and enjoy the outdoors.

From the first floor there are attractive views towards Findhorn Bay, bringing a further sense of openness to the setting. The buildings’ timber façades and green detailing sit comfortably within the established landscape of The Park.

Silvertrees combines the peacefulness of a small residential cluster with the practical details that make everyday life easier. Parking spaces are located directly behind the homes, and the development includes a dedicated bicycle storage area and a communal laundry facility.

A communal bin store is conveniently located within the grounds but discreetly positioned out of sight, with regular collections by Moray Council. This keeps waste and recycling facilities accessible without taking away from the appearance of the garden spaces.

The development is also around one minute’s walk from the Phoenix Shop, a much-loved community-owned store offering fresh organic and local fruit and vegetables, artisan bread, Fair Trade groceries and everyday essentials. Having such a well-stocked local shop close by is one of the pleasures of living at the entrance to The Park.

Environmental performance is a particular strength of Silvertrees. The homes were constructed with high levels of insulation, high-performance glazing and an efficient communal heating system. This shared system incorporates heat-pump technology and solar-assisted hot water, designed to provide efficient space heating and hot water while helping to keep household energy demand and running costs down.

The results are supported by the development’s Energy Performance Certificates: all eight homes received an EPC energy-efficiency rating of B in their 2021 assessments, with scores ranging from 81 to 84. Their environmental-impact ratings were A or B. Together, these results demonstrate the high energy-performance standard achieved across the entire development, not just in a single home.

EPC assessments use standard assumptions. Actual heating and hot-water charges depend on individual use and the applicable tariffs.

Silvertrees is more than a collection of individual homes. The cluster was developed with a co-housing ethos, offering an established neighbourhood in which residents can get to know one another, share some responsibilities and contribute to the care of their surroundings.

There is room for both community connection and personal independence: shared green areas and facilities support cooperative living, while each home has its own private space. Residents are encouraged to take an interest in their neighbours and the wider Ecovillage community, while respecting the privacy of every household.

The as-built site and landscape plan shows the arrangement of the eight homes, parking, pathways and shared grounds. The ground- and first-floor plans illustrate the different home layouts, including House 7 (170 Silvertrees).
